Tim Eckhardt

Tim Eckhardt joined Meyer Capel in 2019 as an associate attorney, joining the firm’s family law practice group. He focuses on all areas of family law, including divorce, child custody, child support, adoption, and orders of protection.

Prior to joining Meyer Capel, Tim worked in family law litigation, and criminal defense in McLean County and the surrounding counties, gaining invaluable experience in the local legal community, advocating on behalf of his clients. He is also certified as a court appointed Guardian ad Litem, a role in which he fights for what is best for the children of a divided family.

Tim earned a Bachelor of Arts from Illinois State University, graduating summa cum laude. At ISU, he earned Dean’s list recognition numerous semesters. He then went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from the University of Illinois College of Law, graduating cum laude. During his time at the University of Illinois, Tim was a Harno Scholar, recognized on the Dean’s list numerous semesters, and received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Legal Research. He was a National Semi-Finalist in the American Bar Association Negotiation Competition, the founding treasurer of the Downstate Legal Society, and an executive board member of the Student Bar Association.

Tim is an active member of the McLean County Bar Association, and sits on its Lawyers in the Classroom Committee and its Family Law Committee. He is also a member of the Illinois State Bar Association.

In his free time, Tim enjoys returning to both Illinois State University and the University of Illinois to help judge competitions such as mock trial, client counseling, and negotiation competitions. He also has helped prepare the University of Illinois College of Law negotiation team for competitions.

Tim was born and raised in Peoria and has resided in Bloomington since 2012. He lives with his wife April and their son Roman. He enjoys spending time with his family riding bikes as well as reading, and playing volleyball.
