Jim joined the firm as a member of Meyer Capel’s real estate and transactional practice groups. Jim brings a wealth of experience in real estate and banking law to the clients of Meyer Capel. His background includes 11 years in house in the banking industry including employment as an attorney for one of the four Farm Credit System Banks. Jim also has 15 years of experience as an attorney in private practice. Over the course of his career, Jim has handled numerous financial transactions involving in excess of $100 million in the aggregate for his real estate and banking clients.
Jim has represented real estate clients with commercial, recreational lake shore and residential real estate developments; sales, acquisitions, and financing transactions; tax deferred exchanges; leasing, foreclosure, evictions and transactions involving common interest communities. Jim’s banking clients have sought his advice with regulatory matters, finance, syndications/participations and special matters involving assets/creditors’ rights.
Jim graduated with a BA in Mathematics from St. Olaf College in Minnesota. He received his JD degree from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1990.
Jim lives with his wife, Susan Lee, who is a University of Illinois alumnus, in Champaign. He enjoys sports, cooking and gardening, and playing golf.
He is currently a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, and he is licensed to practice law in both Illinois and Minnesota.
